Racing to the finish Nationals in Morro and then the Gorge Games in Hood River

Saturday, June 28, 2008, 06:18 AM PST [General]

The Oregon Games was a blast last weekend with hybrid, giant slalom, the 100 cone challenge ending with the slalom cross event.

Coming up is the US Nationals in Morro Bay, CA. July 11-13

Then Hood Rivers "Gorge Game" July 18-20

Skateboarding in the Columbia Gorge is nothing less than surfing on concrete. Boarders have the unique challenge of competing at world class levels in 4 completely different locations including picturesque Mosier Tunnels (one of the most scenic and spectacular places to skateboard on the globe). Or boarders can compete in Hood River 's local skate park for the Mini Bowl Jam, down the heart of the City of Hood River, or the in Athlete's Village for a game of S-K-A-T-E before a throng of cheering spectators. Unlike being in an arena, Gorge Games offers skateboarders great conditions, a tough competitive field (the North American Slalom Skateboard Championships will be part of this year's event) and a raw, natural beauty that only can be found in the Pacific Northwest.

    Mini Bowl Jam
The Hood River Skate Park will play host to this very exciting event. Skateboarders of all types love the new “Cam-corder Mini Bowl” that offers plenty of long grinds, big ollies, and plenty of spots to get their best tricks. This event is judged by a panel of veteran skateboarders who are looking for the skater with the biggest bag of tricks. Prize money paid down to 10th place!

    Game of S.K.A.T.E.
This unique event is a Flatground Skateboard event based on the traditional “H-O-R-S-E” basketball game. Skaters will battle head-to-head with skills. Competitor completes a trick and if their Challenger can’t replicate it the Loser sits while the Winner goes to the next round to continue skating against advancing skaters. Winning this event is going to bring serious clout and bragging rights! Good Luck. Each game will be judge by a veteran skateboarder.

    Slalom Events
The Gorge Games is proud to present the North American Slalom Skateboard Championships in 2008. This is expected to be the highest race-rank status according to the ISSA and will be the biggest slalom event in the country this race season. Racers will receive higher points for racing in this event than other races in the country and we anticipate a fair number of European racers attending. The races in Hood River are also the longest consecutive running slalom event in the country (possibly the World)! The Super Giant Slalom will be held in Mosier Tunnels on the Old Scenic Highway. There are 3 races that comprise this championship title: Giant Slalom, Hybrid Slalom, Tight Slalom

    Hybrid-Slalom Event
To be held in Downtown Hood River with preliminaries on Saturday, July 19 and Finals on Sunday, July 20.

    Tight Slalom Event
To be held in Downtown Hood River with preliminaries on Saturday, July 19 and Finals on Sunday, July 20.

All participants will receive a Gorge Games technical tee shirt, athlete’s appreciation bag, athlete’s pass to Adventure Village , Athletes Village , all Gorge Games sporting venues and all Community events. Not to mention an experience you’ll always remember!

Next Beginning Skateboard Class is March 1, 2008

Sunday, December 9, 2007, 06:23 AM PST [General]

The class is not on line yet but Gary Holl and I got the confirmation letter approving our second skateboard class at the Santa Cruz Skate park. I'll post more details later. It will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am and we have 12 spots available and will have 4 instructors. The last class was a blast. The kids were from 5-9 years old. Thank you to all the skaters that were polite to the last class. It's a twice a year event, these kids get a chance to learn at the park.

Wish we had a park like this when I was growing up!

Beginning Skateboard Class Santa Cruz Park

Saturday, November 10, 2007, 05:41 AM PST [General]

November 3, Saturday morning we held our first beginning skate class at the Santa Cruz Skate Park. This is our forth class we have taught through Parks and Rec. We had 11 kids 5-9 signed up one female adult and 9 kids on the waiting list. Most were beginners that could barely skate other's were more experienced. I want to thank all the skaters at the park for being patient with us as we let them try the small bowl and full pipe. We wanted them to feel fakies and how to weight and unweight the board. The smiles say it all. At the end we gave them award certificates, stickers, the new Strange Notes DVD and a medal. Next class is March 1. Only every six months. Thanks. I'm giving back to the future skaters of Santa Cruz. Skating has been good to me all these years.
